The site of the 2008 ISSSR is the campus of
Stevens Institute of Technology
which lies within the boundaries of the
City of Hoboken, New Jersey.
Hoboken, which is a relatively small community as it occupies only 2 square miles, lies on the west bank of the Hudson River across from the Manhattan, New York City neighborhoods of the West Village and Chelsea, and it is bounded by Weehawken Cove and Union City at the north and Jersey City at the south and west. While small in area, Hoboken is a vibrant waterfront home to many workers that commute to New York City and it is an important center of higher education for the region. Hoboken has a great deal of architectural charm along its main throughfare, Washington Street, where one finds an exceptionally large and diverse collection of bars and restaurants. Of course, Hoboken also possesses an array of convienient gateways (e.g., Light Rail, Water Ferry, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, etc.) to New York City which is only minutes away. Note that the Hoboken Rail Terminal is a national historic landmark that was originally built in 1907 and it is only a few minutes walk to the south from the conference meeting site. Manhattan is a borough of New York City that is known throughout the world, and a commercial, financial and cultural center of the city. Manhattan has many famous landmarks, tourist attractions, museums, and universities. With the nearly limitless opportunity for unique activities and experiences the 2008 ISSSR will be organized to allow for a free afternoon to attendees on Wednesday, June 25 so there will be time to sample your favorites. In addtion, the conference will be organizing the special events that are listed below - note that full details will be provided early in 2008.
